Jerry
Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern
Jerry was born in South Florida to Haitian immigrants. Growing up in a “melting pot” like South Florida helped shape his worldview through a multicultural lens. By experiencing different cultures at an early age, he developed a strong understanding of the importance of empathy. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Arizona State University, and most recently earned a Master’s Degree in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy at the University of Central Florida. While pursuing his Master's Degree, he obtained a post-graduate certificate in Sports Counseling at California University of Pennsylvania.
Jerry did not always know he wanted to become a counselor. Personal experiences led him to seek counseling, and after being able to heal through counseling, he was inspired to help others work through their struggles. The wounded healer concept allows him to stay grounded in the work he does with Clients and provides him with a deep, unique insight to his Clients’ journeys.
Jerry has extensive professional experience in a variety of settings, including community mental healthcare, the college and university setting, and at a community youth shelter. His specialties include sports counseling, couples counseling, and marriage and family therapy. Jerry has a passion for working with athletes and their families to address concerns including depression, anxiety, life transitions, retirement, identity exploration, and a myriad of particular psycho-emotional concerns unique to the athlete population.
Outside of work, Jerry enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. He is a big proponent of traveling and loves listening to jazz music. He also enjoys watching almost any competitive sport.
